Lou de Bètoly is a french designer who works and lives in Berlin.

Her main inspirational sources are chaos, surrealism, nostalgia, decadence, extravagance and oneirism.

In a consequently distinctive way she works a detailed craftmanship and embelishment techniques in a modern context.

Wild at heart, she is an aristocratic punk.

« Deux bêtes au lit » (two beasts in a bed), is a metaphore for dualism.

 

 

GLOSSARY:

Chaos:

Surrealism:

 a movement in art and literature in the 1920s, which developed esp from dada,

 characterized by the evocative juxtaposition of incongruous images i

n order to include unconscious and dream elements.

Nostalgia:

 a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one’s life; a sentimental yearning 

for the happiness of a former place or time.

Decadent:

 one of a group of French and English writers of the late 19th century whose works were characterized

 by refinement of style and a tendency towards the artificial and abnormal in content.

Extravagance:

 exceeding the bounds of reason, as actions, demands, opinions, or passions.

Oneirism:

 an abnormal state of consciousness in which dreamlike, 

often disturbing illusions are experienced while awake.
